Miguel Yelos San Martin, NCARB - LEED AP BD+C Principal
Throughout his career, Miguel has excelled in the design of high-end homes, apartments, residential condominiums, office buildings, family centers, educational buildings, restaurants and auto malls. He has also master planned residential and commercial developments, among other projects.
Miguel graduated from the Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he received his Architectural degree in 1984. While a student, he interned at AURI, SA where he worked on key projects for the City of Buenos Aires, including an ecological belt program with architect Rafael Vignoly.
After graduation, Miguel had his own practice designing and building luxury residences in Buenos Aires. He immigrated to the United States in 1985, where he began work for several architects doing high-end residential design in Orange County, California.
In 1990 Miguel moved to Los Angeles, where he worked on multi-family and institutional projects, including the renovation of Los Angeles City Hall.
Having gained experience in all facets of architectural design, Miguel came to Atlanta with his wife in 1991 and founded YSM Design, specializing in the automotive field as a retail design consultant. He was a member of the design team for the Trustmark prototype design for Ford Motor Co. and a facility designer for BMW and Mohawk Industries, among others.
For Miguel, the Ford Trustmark project was a significant turning point in his design direction. "It was the first time a car dealership was branded. The project incorporated a lot of creativity in the retail environment. For the first time in the automotive industry, we turned a selling environment into a buying environment," he says.
In addition to automotive, Miguel has been working on several types of other retail concepts such as flooring stores, restaurants, convenience stores, cellular retail environments and prototypes for other industries.
As a result, YSM's focus is on creating seamless environments for all kinds of clients, with projects that incorporate branding into the building and its interior details or that stand as innovative residences, office buildings, educational buildings or restaurants.
"What separates us from the competition is that we design buildings and residences that do what our clients want them to do," Miguel says. "We can design for their particular business, to help them make money, or for whatever their intended use is. We want to continue to evolve these environments, proposing new ways of buying, learning or living in a space."
