Lyle R. Hutson - NCARB West Coast Director
With a background in construction and real estate development, Lyle has hands-on experience in all the physical aspects of the building industry. A native of California Lyle received a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Southern California, where he also studied business and real estate finance. Prior to receiving his degree, Lyle studied architecture and urban planning in Rome.
In 1990 Lyle started Hutson & Partners Architecture, a firm committed to increasing sustainable practices in the building industry. With work that includes conceptual dealership and auto mall feasibility studies to design implementation, Hutson & Partners has created the most prestigious automotive centers in California, in addition to residential and retail spaces.
Prior to starting his own firm, Lyle was Director of the Automotive Group for Ware Malcomb, responsible for all aspects of the group nationwide with 11 offices, including business development and the creation of training procedures to highlight industry standards and design practices for auto facility design.
Lyle joins YSM via Laguna Beach, CA, where he is responsible for all aspects of the West Coast Office. The West coast office is a full service fully staffed office with the latest technology and experienced personnel. From business development, client relations, concept designs and construction documents the West Coast does it all. “Most of the major auto and retail manufacturers have regional headquarters here in the Southern California area and having a regional office here enables us to effectively communicate and respond quickly to all of our clients projects’ now that we have both sides of the U.S. covered." We can respond quickly to all areas of the country and give our clients the support and attention that we are known for.
With the experience of building and financing both commercial and residential projects, Lyle is able to accurately evaluate projects and promote good ideas and sensible solutions without being influenced by characteristic trends.
For Lyle, a key part of the work that YSM does involves keeping the focus on each project as something new and distinct: "Architecture as a business can sometimes get in the way of the true design process, and the benefit derived by repetition can become the dictating factor. We give the highest priority to approach each project as a singular endeavor."
